Thinning Hair Treatment
It is quite normal to lose hair everyday as the average person has about 100,000 hairs on the scalp where 60 – 100 hairs are shed everyday. However it is when the number of hair that sheds increases that hair thinning starts to occur in a person.
It has been found that over the years, the number of people who have been experiencing hair thinning has increased. And the best thing to do to understand and treat this thinning hair is to find out what are the reasons for hair thinning and the external factors that are responsible for hair loss.
Like most health problems and conditions in a person, thinning hair is hereditary. Between men and women, it has been found that thinning hair in men is much more common than thinning hair in women. In fact, more than 40% of men under 35 suffer from hair loss, which starts with thinning at the crown and a receding hairline.
Women too suffer from thinning hair
This thinning of hair slowly leads to the development of a bald spot at the crown that eventually leads to complete baldness. After lots of research, it has been found, and declared that it is the chemical from testosterone, DHT (dihydrotestosterone) that is the strongest cause and reason for thinning hair in men.
Women too are not far behind in thinning hair. Women too suffer from thinning hair; the only difference is that women usually suffer from this condition only after the age of 40. Even the cause for thinning hair is different in women than in men, and is more complicated than the cause for hair thinning in men.
Women tend to suffer from diffuse thinning
Men tend to experience a definite pattern when their hair starts thinning which called male pattern baldness; however women tend to experience an overall thinning of hair which is called ‘diffuse thinning’. As there are many causes for thinning hair in women, it is important for you to get a GPS diagnoses on the exact cause for your hair thinning, before treating it.
Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and an overactive thyroid tends to affect the hormonal balance of the woman’s body, and this is what contributes to thinning hair. There are also cases of women suffering from thinning hair after using extreme hair treatments like perms, hot oil treatments and colorants. These extreme hair treatments tend to inflame the scalp, and in the process, damage hair follicles.
Treatment options for thinning hair
There are many treatment options for preventing hair loss and for regrowing hair for both men and women. Topical solutions with minoxidil are great for stopping thinning hair and for stimulating hair growth. There are also some DHT shampoos that work at removing the damaging DHT chemical from the scalp, and thus arrest thinning hair.
Besides all this, you could also take dietary supplements with vitamin B6, magnesium, folic acid, saw palmetto and biotin to help stop thinning hair. Even Finasteride is effective in stopping thinning hair, but is effective only for men. It is based on the type of hair loss you suffer from that these hair loss treatments have to be used continuously to prevent the reoccurrence of hair thinning.
